Welcome to the BEE Present Blog!

Being present in our daily lives is a goal we must all practice regularly. Today’s hustle culture has programmed society to keep our minds and bodies busy each waking moment. We find our minds hyper aware of our thoughts and emotions which can often result in pent up anxiety and stress amongst a multitude of other mental health consequences. We have become so accustomed to remaining busy in our bodies in order to meet the expectations of work and family. This daily non-stop activity has become habitual to us, taking us out of the present moment aka forging mental absence. We find ourselves living on autopilot, losing touch with reality and the true purpose behind our work and effort.

Digital information culture now serves as a form of mental escapism. Social media provides instant and continuous gratification while likes and comments are exchanged, video content is streamed, and negative news and gossip circulate the internet.

The goal of this blog is to bring insight and provide reminders of how we can work to be more present in our daily lives. Just as we get programmed to make it a habit to not be present, we can also re-program our psyche to focus on getting back in touch with our bodies.

Yes, being present requires focus and effort but once you get in touch with the present moment, you will not want to leave.

These blog posts are intentionally written short in length to allow its messages to be digested. The responses will then dictate how and where I will answer questions and comments in future posts and podcast episodes.

Feel free to comment and start the conversation on what it means to BEE PRESENT!!

P.S. Why “BEE” Present?

It all started with the emojis that depict the words 🐝🎁.

Bees are a prime example of what being present can look like in any environment. Worker Bees eat nectar and spread pollen, focusing solely on one flower at a time. They are content in taking their time as they move from one flower to another despite the stimuli around them.

This is what being present should look like on the most basic level in our lives. Being present should make us focus only on what we are doing in the given moment. We should not think about or relive the past. We also should not worry about the future and feel that we can only achieve happiness once that goal has been reached. Next time you find yourself wanting to be present, think about how the bee stays focused on what it’s doing in the moment. Their simple job not only feeds themselves and the colony, but also pollinates plants that feed us all. So, keep it one flower at a time.
